Think about thinking ....

How many words define a person? Would the perfect description help you recognize me sometime when you meet me, or would it help us get along better, would it make you smile when you have deja vu between sight and knowledge? I dont know, maybe it'd just scare you away .... Anyways, stick around and take a look. Might just be fun!

Say What? > Wordsworth! (Lyrics to die for)

Some people are born to write the most amazing lyrics. The greatest lyricist probably writes about something very specific and dear to him/herself so generally yet beautifully that millions of people believe that it describes exactly what they are going through!
This thread is for people to post lyrics that touched them and would like to share with everyone else. Guess who is gonna start again ... Me .....

Why, why can't it be, why can't it be mine"

All of the nights you came to me
When some silly girl had set you free
You wondered how you’d make it through
I wondered what was wrong with you

’cause how could you give your love to someone else
And share your dreams with me

One drop of rain on your windowpane
Doesn't mean to say there's a thunderstorm comin'
Rain may pour for an hour or more
But it doesn't matter
You know it doesn't matter

She lies and says she’s in love with him, can’t find a better man...
She dreams in color, she dreams in red, can’t find a better man...

Here are some excerpts from Californication (Red Hot Chilli Peppers):

Psychic spies from china
Try to steal your mind’s elation
Little girls from sweden
Dream of silver screen quotations
And if you want these kind of dreams
It’s californication
.....
First born unicorn
Hard core soft porn
Dream of californication
Dream of californication

Destruction leads to a very rough road
But it also breeds creation
And earthquakes are to a girl’s guitar
They’re just another good vibration
And tidal waves couldn’t save the world

The black and green scarecrow as everyone knows
Stood with a bird on his hat and straw everywhere.
He didn't care.
He stood in a field where barley grows.

His head did no thinking
His arms didn't move except when the wind cut up
Rough and mice ran around on the ground
He stood in a field where barley grows.

The black and green scarecrow is sadder than me
But now he's resigned to his fate
'cause life's not unkind - he doesn't mind.
He stood in a field where barley grows.

Gazing through the window at the world outside
Wondering will mother earth survive
Hoping that mankind will stop abusing her sometime

After all there's only just the two of us
And here we are still fighting for our lives
Watching all of history repeat itself
Time after time

I'm just a dreamer
I dream my life away
I'm just a dreamer
Who dreams of better days

Where do you go to my lovely
When you're alone in your bed
Tell me the thoughts that surround you
I want to look inside your head, yes I do

I remember the back streets of Naples
Two children begging in rags
Both touched with a burning ambition
To shake off their lowly-born tags, so they try

So look into my face Marie-Claire
And remember just who you are
Then go and forget me forever
But I know you still bear the scar, deep inside, yes you do

I know where you go to my lovely
When you're alone in your bed
I know the thoughts that surround you
'Cause I can look inside your head

Beautiful lyrics from ages ago:

Dear darlin' surprised to hear from me?
Bet you're sittin' drinkin' coffee, yawnin' sleepily
Just to let you know
I'm gonna be home soon
I'm kinda awkward and afraid
Time has changed your point of view

How you gonna see me now
Please don't see me ugly babe
'Cause I know I let you down
In oh so many ways
How you gonna see me now
Since we've been on our own
Are you gonna love the man
When the man gets home

And just like the first time
We're just strangers again
I might have grown out of style
In the place I've been
And just like the first time
I'll be shakin' inside
When I walk in the door
There'll be no place to hide

Alice Cooper (how you gonna see me now)
wanted to keep it short, could not leave any of the lines I love out.

Hi, Buddharth(?)...your posting reminded me of a song that's dear to me.

I'm gonna put the whole song here. Sorry to eat up all the space, Amrit :)

I'm comin' home, I've done my time
Now I've got to know what is and isn't mine
If you received my letter telling you I'd soon be free
Then you'll know just what to do
If you still want me
If you still want me

tie a yellow ribbon 'round the old oak tree
It's been three long years
Do ya still want me (still want me)
If I don't see a ribbon 'round the old oak tree
I'll stay on the bus
Forget about us
Put the blame on me
If I don't see a yellow ribbon 'round the old oak tree

Bus driver, please look for me
'cause I couldn't bear to see what I might see
I'm really still in prison
And my love, she holds the key
A simple yellow ribbon's what I need to set me free
I wrote and told her please

tie a yellow ribbon 'round the old oak tree
It's been three long years
Do ya still want me (still want me)
If I don't see a ribbon 'round the old oak tree
I'll stay on the bus
Forget about us
Put the blame on me
If I don't see a yellow ribbon 'round the old oak tree

Now the whole damned bus is cheerin'
And I can't believe I see
A hundred yellow ribbons 'round the old oak tree

I'm comin' home, mmm, mmm

Hi Rashi(?) since this theme is dear to you, here's more. different genre's same feelings

Sorry Amrit again for us treating your space like a buffet :)

Times have changed and times are strange
Here I come, but I ain’t the same
Mama, I’m coming home
Times gone by seem to be
You could have been a better friend to me
Mama, I’m coming home

You made me cry, you told me lies
But I can’t stand to say goodbye
Mama, I’m coming home
I could be right, I could be wrong
Hurts so bad, it’s been so long
Mama, I’m coming home

Selfish love yeah we’re both alone
The ride before the fall
But I’m gonna take this heart of stone
I just got to have it all

Chorus
I’ve seen your face a hundred times
Everyday we’ve been apart
I don’t care about the sunshine, yeah
’cause mama, mama, I’m coming home

Well we all have a face
That we hide away forever
And we take them out and
Show ourselves
When everyone has gone
Some are satin some are steel
Some are silk and some are leather
They’re the faces of the stranger
But we love to try them on

Hey Rashi(!) and Buddharth(?), Feel free to paint this space as much as you want, I am thrilled by the activity. Since you all are on the topic of being away from home: some lyrics from Led Zep--Kashmir

Oh let the sun beat down upon my face, stars to fill my dream
I am a traveler of both time and space, to be where I have been
To sit with elders of the gentle race, this world has seldom seen
They talk of days for which they sit and wait and all will be revealed

Talk and song from tongues of lilting grace, whose sounds caress my ear
But not a word I heard could I relate, the story was quite clear
Oh, oh.

All I see turns to brown, as the sun burns the ground
And my eyes fill with sand, as I scan this wasted land
Trying to find, trying to find where I've been.

Oh, pilot of the storm who leaves no trace, like thoughts inside a dream
Heed the path that led me to that place, yellow desert stream
My Shangri-La beneath the summer moon, I will return again
Sure as the dust that floats high in June, when movin' through Kashmir.

Hi i know the current theme appears to be " away from home", so "wish you were here " doesnt really fit that but i thought i would put it up

<<So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from Hell,
Blue skys from pain.
Can you tell a green field
From a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?

And did they get you to trade
Your heros for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange
A walk on part in the war
For a lead role in a cage?

How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls
Swimming in a fish bowl,
Year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found?
The same old fears.
Wish you were here.>>>

It fits ever so sweet-bandy

That's beautiful, Anu.
I'm curious about the Kashmir song, Amrit. Intriguing lyrics, and same goes for your song, Buddharth. 'amazing what people can say, and others understand, from words put together.

Here's another one...John Denver, this time.

In a spaceship over the mountains
Chasing rainbows in the setting sun
Leaving heart and home for the city of angels
I feel my life is undone

There are pathways winding below me
In pleasure I’ve gone where they go
In the quiet stillness I can hear symphonies
The loveliest music I know

How can I leave you again
I must be clear out of my mind
Lost in a storm I’ve gone blind
Oh, how can I leave you again

Oh, it’s been a long time since I’ve listened
Still longer since I’ve walked with you
For the first time I know what I’m missing
Some answers are no longer true

So I question the course that I follow
I’m doubtful and deep in despair
My heart is full of impossible notions
Can it be you no longer care?

Still, I ride on the wings of a high wind
Blowing steady and strong behind me
As the clouds surrender my fate is for certain
I’m a sailor who runs to the sea

How can I leave you again
I must be clear out of my mind
Lost in a storm I’ve gone blind
Oh, how can I leave you again
